The Department of Basic Sciences is one of the major departments of Amal Jyothi offering courses in basic sciences for all faculties in their graduate and postgraduate programs. The academic programs of this department are organized to meet the requirements of the fast growing technology. The department has been there, right from the inception of the college, offering instructions in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry to students of core branches of engineering.
The BS department comprises eleven full timers, including one Professor, one Assistant Professor and nine lecturers. Two members of the department have Ph.D. and four are currently engaged in active research work. While continuing our service to other faculties, we also make efforts for continuous improvement and development as a research department in the field of science and technology.
The department, located in the Resource Block, has been organizing Quality Improvement Programs, Seminars, and lectures. We conducted a Staff training Program on 'Relevance of Mathematics in Engineering' sponsored by the AICTE last year. Now a national conference on Nanotechnology, NANOSAT-10, sponsored by the DST Govt of India, is being organized by the department. We also have instituted a lecture series in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Economics, christened Sir Issac Newton lecture Series, in 2008.
We have been celebrating National Science Day and World Maths Day, since 2007.
