Department of Humanities
The Dept. of Humanities, headed by Dr. Sebastian Narively, comprises disciplines such as English, Economics, Management, Counselling and the two federal depts. of Placement & Training and Physical Education. It addresses skill gaps between academia's output and organizations' requirements by making the graduating engineers competent in communication and interpersonal skills. The dept consists of eight well experienced faculty members who are highly rated in their own respective areas.
Faulty communication, skimpy etiquette and scanty team skills have ruined the chances of many an engineering student in clearing placement interviews. Realizing how vital soft skills are for selection and promotion, the Management of the College has appointed two full-time faculty members for Communicative English - another unique feature of Amal Jyothi. The Language Lab with a capacity of 66 consoles and a dept library, consisting of self-help and placement-related books and CDs, go a long way in honing the soft skills of students.
Apart from regular classes and tests the department also organizes training programmes for the faculty, staff and students. One of the focal points of students' training is Good Manners.
Counselling of students is effectively taken care of on a regular basis by Sr. Ann Mathew SH and Fr. Joseph Maniangatt MST. One-to-one counselling strengthens the unsteady and fickle-minded students and makes them confident and systematic.
Physical Education, under Sri. Jojo George, includes regular coaching in sports, chess and group games such as Shuttle badminton, basketball and football. ARENA, an all-Kerala inter-engineering basketball tournament is an annual programme of the College. Competitions in sports, for both students and staff, is yet another attractive feature.
The College has a vibrant Placement Assistance Cell under Sri. Thomas Paul, MBA, who has long industry experience. Thanks to the initiative of the Placement Cell, several companies visit our campus every year as part of their milk rounds. Placement-related trainings also are organized to equipment the job seekers in aptitude tests, interviews and group discussions. Despite the global recession, this year we had campus recruitments of TCS, UST Global, HCL, Galfar & Cybernet Slash Support |
