Of the many engineering disciplines, mechanical engineering is the broadest, encompassing a wide variety of engineering fields and many specialities. Although it is commonly assumed that mechanical engineers are automotive engineers, in fact, they are employed in an enormous range of technical areas including: aerospace, acoustics, air-conditioning, automatic controls, computer-aided design, energy management, fluid dynamics, tribology, robotics, biomechanics, and turbomachinery, just to name a few. Mechanical engineering is a challenging, rewarding, and highly respected profession.

The Department came into being in the year 2004 offering B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.  The Department has started M.Tech programme in Machine Design recently. The Department has laboratory and workshop facilities with modern sophisticated equipments to carry out research in all areas related to Mechanical Engineering.

The mission of the Department is to mould Mechanical Engineers for the dissemination of knowledge and technology, and development of innovative solutions to problems in this fields.The Department supports society through its commitment to excellence in its teaching, research, scholarship, and service missions.

Department of Mechanical Engineering attracts talented individuals, with nearly 270 undergraduates, and over 17 faculty members.
